رمضان مبارك
The most beautiful time of the year. Every muslim is looking forward for the holy month of Ramadan. As the islamic calender is a lunaric calender, the month Ramadan takes place to a different time every year. It begins and ends with the appearance of the newmoon.
Ramadan is so important because it was during the 9 th month, that the holy Quran was reveraled to our Prophet.
Fasting should teach one how it feels like to be poor, to gain taqua (fear of Allah) and it works as a shield.
‚O you who have believed, decreed upon you is fasting as it was decreed upon those before you that you may become righteous –[Fasting for] a limited number of days. So whoever among you is ill or on a journey [during them] – then an equal number of days [are to be made up]. And upon those who are able [to fast, but with hardship] – a ransom [as substitute] of feeding a poor person [each day]. And whoever volunteers excess – it is better for him. But to fast is best for you, if you only knew.‚ Quran 2:183-184
‚The month of Ramadhan [is that] in which was revealed the Qur’an, a guidance for the people and clear proofs of guidance and criterion. So whoever sights [the new moon of] the month, let him fast it; and whoever is ill or on a journey – then an equal number of other days. Allah intends for you ease and does not intend for you hardship and [wants] for you to complete the period and to glorify Allah for that [to] which He has guided you; and perhaps you will be grateful.‘ Quran 2:185
During a period of 40 days, muslims fast from sunrise to sunset. Fasting in this case means the absence of eating and drinking, but also avoiding doing, watching and listening to anything impure, as the holy month is a time of religious and spiritural reflection. Every evening the fasting is broken (Iftar) and eating and drinking is allowed until the dawn. The sunnah is to break the fast with dates.
It is said that during that period, the gates of the heaven are open and the gates of hell are closed.
It is said that the last ten nights are the most important, as one of the nights is the Laylat-ul-qadr (night of destiny).
I recommend the fasting for everyone, muslim or nonmuslim, as it is not only healing the body but also a very enrichening experience you can only grow from.
