Saffron is also called the priceless spice, as it is the most expensive spice of the world. This is due to its costly production. The red saffron strings from the crocos flower are all handpicked from the inside of the blossom. 800 blossoms of the saffron flower are necessary to produce 5 gram of the saffron spice, all hand selected! Iran is the ruler of the saffron prodction and famous for the best quality saffron in the world. The word saffron comes from the persian word zarparan wich means ‚flower with golden petals‘.

The little flower threads have a lot of healing effects to the body. The spice is known to be an aphrodisiac for both, men and women and to cure depression. It is also known to support eye sight, as it contains a lot of vitamin A. In Chinese medicine it is used for stomach issues, heart and liver issues. It also improves the nerve function and sleep and is known for preventing cancer. In Morocco, mothers use the flower to relieve tooth ache.

Genuine saffron spice has a sweet smell and is bitter in taste. Its red colour stays after putting it into warm water or milk. Please make sure not to take too much of the spice, as it can cause side effects.
